:: Other Pursuits ::

JJ havin' funYou don’t have to open up the pages of Stephen King’s On Writing to take away profound inspiration. On the back cover of the hard back copy he says “... put your desk in the corner, and every time you sit down there to write, remind yourself why it isn’t in the middle of the room. Life isn’t a support system for art. It’s the other way around.”

Writing is a major part of Jacqui’s life, but it's not the only part. “I try to get the walks in as often as I can and hit the gym to stay in semi good shape. Don’t want to be falling at seventy with bad effects.”

“I’m still heavy into self-defense, though I don’t practice every day. I think it’s everyone’s right to know how to protect themselves. I grew up in Los Angeles in the late 70’s when the Hillside Strangler was on the prowl. When other schools in the country were teaching baseball and football, we had the LAPD coming to our school to teach the girls self defense during gym. Self-defense became a life-long hobby.”

“And baking, it’s my stress relief and my passion. I never take on anything too crazy, but I love it when it’s pretty and taste great. I like giving that to my family.”

Says Jacqui: “A couple years ago I came across a quote of Thomas Jefferson’s that I liked so much I cross-stitched it and put in my kitchen window so I’d never forget.”

“It’s wonderful what can be done when you are always doing...”

That one sentence pretty much sums up how Jacqui Jacoby views her life. So much to do, so much to learn. So little time to do it in.
